Stream The Hold Steady's Stay Positive

We weighed in early and positively on the Hold Steady's Stay Positive. Since then, we've had more time to soak-up the lyrics, figure out interconnections, and chart continuing threads from earlier albums. At the end of the day, in the...  CONTINUE READING STREAM THE HOLD STEADY'S STAY POSITIVE»

Premature Evaluation: The Hold Steady - Stay Positive

In "Constructive Summer," the opening and arguably best track on Stay Positive, Craig Finn intones "Our psalms are sing-a-long songs." True, the best ones really are anthems you want to be shouting while climbing water towers, toasting St. Joe Strummer...  CONTINUE READING PREMATURE EVALUATION: THE HOLD STEADY - STAY POSITIVE»

The Hold Steady Unveil Stay Positive Album Art

Yesterday guest blogger Chris Walla posted up the Hold Steady's new Ben Nichols-backed track "Sequestered In Memphis." The song has a different vibe (and more horns) than the live take of Stay Positive's 7 Seconds and Youth Of Today-referencing title...  CONTINUE READING THE HOLD STEADY UNVEIL STAY POSITIVE ALBUM ART»

Now there's a bit more available than live videos and...  CONTINUE READING THE HOLD STEADY'S FIRST POSITIVE REVIEW»

Lou Reed: "I Can't Wear The Sunglasses Now Because I'd fall Over A Cable," And Other Tribeca Film Festival Musical Revelations

The Tribeca Film Festival ended this weekend, and there was a lot of music-y stuff that went down before it did. The biggest news comes via the Julian Schnabel film Lou Reed's Berlin. ThePlaylist saw it and said "If you...  CONTINUE READING LOU REED: "I CAN'T WEAR THE SUNGLASSES NOW BECAUSE I'D FALL OVER A CABLE," AND OTHER TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL MUSICAL REVELATIONS»

Vampire Weekend, The Hold Steady, Girl Talk To Crash 2008 Capitol Hill Block Party

We all need one more festival, right? Guess nobody sells records these days, so live shows are where it's at, etc. Anyhow, if you're in the Seattle area, you can just about ride SP20 into the Stranger's 11th annual Capitol...  CONTINUE READING VAMPIRE WEEKEND, THE HOLD STEADY, GIRL TALK TO CRASH 2008 CAPITOL HILL BLOCK PARTY»

Jesse Malin Covers The Hold Steady

East Village stalwart Jesse Malin's supplementing last year's Glitter In The Gutter with a covers record, tackling influences (Tom Waits, Neil Young) and contemporaries (The Kills) alike. He's not covering Bruce Springsteen because he just did that (and even had...  CONTINUE READING JESSE MALIN COVERS THE HOLD STEADY»

New Live Hold Steady Video - "Stay Positive"

The Hold Steady showcased the title track from their fourth album in that stream we posted last week. Now we have "Stay Positive" video evidence. Hear "Stay Positive," The Hold Steady's Fourth Album Title Track

We haven't heard much from the Hold Steady recently -- last time we checked, they were expanding their beards, and Lucero's Ben Nichols was adding some vocals. Well, the band's fourth album, recorded across New York with Boys And Girls...  CONTINUE READING HEAR "STAY POSITIVE," THE HOLD STEADY'S FOURTH ALBUM TITLE TRACK»

Hold Steady Album And Facial Hair News

Lucero's Ben Nichols is apparently singing on the new Hold Steady album. (Why not Blake Schwarzenbach?) And apparently Craig still likes beer (see photo). The boys are also having a beard growing contest (scroll). And Franz, a man already famous for his mustache, is playing solo shows in February. All caught up? Walk around and drink some more.

Andrew Bird Challenges My Heterosexuality ... More Indie T-Shirts!

Bonnaroo: Saturday 6/16/07

If Friday's 'Roo music trolling left something to be desired, Saturday's lineup was more than just compensation.
