The Raveonettes - "Aly, Walk With Me"
This week we offer a Danish Drop by rockin' duo the Raveonettes, whose "Aly, Walk With Me" serves as a crackling '60s-noir intro to Lust Lust Lust, Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo's Vice-debuting follow-up to 2005's sophomore full-length Pretty In Black. We caught up with multi-instrumental guitarist and co-vocalist Sune and asked him for the skinny behind the track's beautifully storming brood:
Who's Aly? There's a real emotional heaviness in the song.
Aly is a girl I started writing with a long time ago and we developed this strange long-distance "relationship," which was very powerful. I wrote the song about her 'cause I used to dream up all these scenarios about how or where we would first meet when that beautiful day would finally come. It turned out our first meeting was in New York City, just like the song.
As far as the narrative goes, what are we to make of all that feedback at the end? Some sort of exclamation point? Or is it purely musical?
I was very inspired by psychedelic bands like the Warlocks and the Black Angels at the time I wrote the song, and because we always play along with samples, our music is quite tight and there's not a lot of room to switch things around, so I wanted to create a more loose vibe and just go crazy with the noise and sounds for as long as I felt like. I guess you could say the noise is referring to the desperation of missing someone and even missing someone you've never met. It makes a strong point.

Stevens puts a spin on his orchestral pop, debuting his multi-media hula-hooping orchestral suite. Stereogum was there two nights in a row, battling "Wang Chung" flickers and cranky BAM regulars to bring you the story.

Stylus Says Goodbye, Drops First Best Of '07 Music List »
There are still two months left in 2007. We imagine our readers are more than up to the task of filling that time with suggestions of bands Stylus forgot to include on their Beirut and Animal Collective-free not-quite-the-end-of-the-year list.
