Micah P. Hinson - "'Tell Me It Aint So"

The new album Micah P Hinson And The Red Empire Orchestra, by gravelly voiced Texas songwriter Micah P. Hinson and his Red Empire Orchestra, is out 7/14 on Full Time Hobby. The first single, "When We Embraced," showed up 6/2, but another track -- in our opinion, the album's standout -- shows up for the first time in today's Drop. We asked Hinson what inspired the song and, more specifically, "Who are the ghosts chattering down the hallway?" Hinson responded indirectly, but his honesty offers straightforward insight into the track.

Thanks for your interest in the song. I feel quite close to that particular one. As far as all the particular questions, I'll need to apologize, as they are a bit too personal, and I wouldn't feel comfortable answering them. As I said, I am quite close to the song, so I truly can't find it within myself to break it down on such a personal level.

From the outside looking in though, I think a way to describe, or rather explain, the song is by looking at it from a "humanity"- esque point of view. I think a good amount of people would agree that sometimes in life they find themselves striving for, or chasing after, things they truly have no business being involved with, whether it endangers themselves or others. I think the song is about living a regretful life and stupidly asking themselves, a God, or the universe to not force them to reap the punishment or consequence of their actions. I believe a lot of people want to get out of situations easily. People don't want to face consequences, but facing and learning from consequences is the only way a man, woman, or child will learn how to grow up and be an honest and good human being. To me, that seems the purpose of life- to learn and understand compassion, empathy, love, and character.

I hope this answers your questions to a certain degree.

Premature Evaluation: Coldplay - Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends »
A couple days ago we listened carefully to Coldplay's Brian Eno-produced fourth album and gave you our assessment. That's when the comments section went crazy with details of love/hate: Surprisingly, it's almost exactly 50/50.

New Santogold, Julian Casablancas & Pharrell - "My Drive Thru" »
Santi, the Strokes' lead man, and Pharrell have joined forces to help sell Converses as part of the "Three Artists, One Song" ad campaign. The One song, "My Drive Thru," is a well-produced, upbeat, funky jingle. that could easily be used or McDonald's, too.

OldStand: Rolling Stone, April 18, 1991 »
In this installment of OldStand, MC Hammer and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II veteran Vanilla Ice offer fashion tips and as part of the "New Faces '91" cover story, Extreme battle it out over their desire to maintain their integrity and respect from their peers. Hindsight is a bitch, 1991.
