Blind Man's Colour - "Heavy Cloud Hustle"
The syrupy, psychedelic Kanye and Ed Droste-approved pop duo Blind Man's Colour is the project of 19-year-old Floridians Kyle Wyss and Orhan Chettri. Their proper debut Season Dreaming is out 8/18 via Kanine, but we have the smeary, Tropical second track "Heavy Cloud Hustle" in this week's Drop. We asked the guys about it.
What is a heavy cloud hustle? In the song, why is your head spinning? The name originally came from the rush of percussion in the song, which was initially a lot heavier with high use of bass drum/tom-toms, but the overall sound was smooth and transparent, like a cloudy figure -- thus the name "Heavy Cloud Hustle" was born. Our heads spin because of our potential misdirection ... and figuring out the right pace and balance in life can put one at unease. But in the end, we're walking on clouds, so it all works out!
At the end of the song, you can hear "Heavy" bleeding into the following track. Are the two connected beyond this transitional haze? The opening song "The Warm Current's Pull" is a metaphorical underwater experience of a dream one of us had when half asleep, listening to music ... [this] finishes with a burst through the surface and into the sky for "Heavy Cloud Hustle," which ends with the descent onto land for "The Dinosaur Ride." The three songs fade into each other for that reason, and are meant to be fantastical dream-like adventures and explorations of ocean, sky and earth, with the elements of bliss, anxiety, and appreciation.

New Jonathan Boulet Video - "A Community Service Announcement"
This dude's the latest signing to Australia's Modular label, landing with a tidy package of promotional offerings: a catchy, moistly breezy indie-pop debut single that couldn't be better titled for a meet-the-artist track; a subtly arresting/marginally tricked-out video; and a... (more)
New El Guincho - "Antillas (XXXchange Remix)"
When we first heard onetime BTW Pablo Díaz-Reixa, aka El Guincho, we were drawn in by "Antillas," a song we described as "a five-minute bundle of clattering loops and sunny harmonies." It was from the self-released Alegranza!, before he'd signed... (more)
