On Stereogum

Let's not fool ourselves though. Radiohead make good music, but they do sell a brand. They have an underground/anti-system persona that they sell to people that are (or want to be seen as) undergroung/anti. And as much as we might not want to accept it, they capitolize on this brand. As much as they gave 'In Rainbows' away for free it was really just a branding and an advertising of that brand in order to make money in the long run. I'm not saying Radiohead are crap, or even that FF are any good, but I agree with some of his point here, and think it's important to understand.

A few observations:

1) This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't Weezer. It's really not horrible music, it's just disapointing. I've been a hater ever since Matt left, but now I think I'm warming into a nice mushy "meh".

2) The camera man doesn't understand that Pat Wilson is a part of the band.

3) My wife walked in during "Can't Stop Partying" and said "I don't get it, they look like nerds." and it brought back so many memories of the old Weezer.

Hey! Thanks for the heads up. I love Matt Sharp and all, but I almost feel like he is just as much tinsel and vague space as Rivers is. His solo work and his work with the Rentals is just about equally worth while to check out as Weezers output. the only difference is, with The Rentals you don't get the exploded ego effect which makes mediocrity sound like garbage.

I'm glad this comments section isn't just full of people talking about "Take on Me". I had the privelege to live in eastern Europe for a few years not too long ago, and I was really surprised at how big they were over there. It's funny how something so huge in Europe can still be completely invisible in the US.

I will also take this as a chance to repeat yet again that "Manhattan Skyline" is one of the awesomest songs of all time. Of All Time! And the music video for it is, in my opinion, even better than the iconic video for "Take On Me".

I don't know. The story does clearly state that michael "co-wrote" the song. And you know, the TMZ link even says that Anka "gave the song to another artist to record in 1990", and I bet you he didn't share the profits with Michael for that one.

This really just seem like a lot of media sensationalism blowing things out of proportion. We need some new tabloid headlines I guess.

Hey! Where's Sufjan? Maybe this is where "You are the Blood" was supposed to end up. Since, you know. It would make more sense in a vampire movie soundtrack about people that eat each other's blood, than it does on a benefit album about a terminal blood disease.

Also. Sufjan is awesome!

Holy Cow. It's about time people started taking notice of this album. I think it stands a chance at being an major underground hit. There is so much to like about this album. It has high energy, great hooks, excelent musician ship and it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's just a really really fun album.

I don't know if I so much hear Dave Mathew's in the chorus as much as I hear the Liars' "Houseclouds". Everything right down to the keyboard melody break down in the middle. It's almost note for note.

I'm not suggesting she copied, but it always makes me want to go back want listen to the Liars again when I hear it.

I don't know guys... I would really love to see 50-Cent star in "Lolcats: The Movie".

I really think that would be a sortof, "moment my life began" scenario for me.

I like to think that all of those voice actors are all going to be doing Marmaduke all at the same time in a sort of demonic chorus. They could do anything else in the movie, but if they made marmaduke finally able to talk because he was possessed by Legion I might consider watching the trailer someday.

Bonus points for Andrew Bird. You're right though. I think the part that makes it seem like 'Where the Wild Things Are', is all the large furry puppet people that were dancing around on the beach.

So, does this class on "American Poverty" bring up the fact that they are all rich people paying a rich person to talk to them about a TV show for half a year? Because I really think this subject is important to the outcome of the class.
