you don't have to prove that coldplay listened to satriani, although it helps, just access (wide dissemination of satchs records) plus similarity. George Harrison got wrung up for infringement under similar circumstances

Never heard of him? He's had 14 grammy nominations, 3 billboard 200 records ( in the top 30 I might add), and played in G3 concerts, something coldplay hasn't had the honour of yet. So yes, coldplay has heard of him.

Never heard of it?! right! tell me one single good guitar player that never heard of joe satriani!!! he's the master of guitar, among with steve vai, malmsteen, macalpine, paul gilbert, etc, ett! so many others! any musician entitled to call himself a musician knows about Satriani! But probably you're right, coldplay has insignificant guitar players that never heard about Satriani! I hope Satriani wins in court! Cheers!

i sincerely doubt that anyone in coldplay was more than vaguely aware that joe satriani existed before this mess. Also, yes they're very similar but it's not like the similarity is between a seriously complex or original part of the song. i'm sure there are plenty of other songs in the world that have that same riff. satch should find another way to afford a hair transplant.

honestly, though, i'm more dissappointed in the fact that Stereogum was the last place to carry this story. mtv, rolling stone, spin, and even wikipedia had it before stereogum. lame-o

despite the fact that i laughed as kanye said that he had to sing "more perfect"....i've used auto-tune in recording projects so i know that on certain settings it's true that it'll make bad notes more noticeable, but it's just the way he said it. i mean, i think the guy is a genius and great but i just had to laugh...

also, has anyone else noticed how hoarse his voice has been getting on these live performances? my theory is that since he doesn't actually know how to sing, he's straining his voice and if he keeps it up, he won't be singing very long. or he'll sound like Bob Dylan does today.

depends. if it's at a low setting you probably won't be able to hear too much a of a difference. auto-tune is used by most recording professionals to fix minor errors in otherwise good takes. if you blast it lil wayne style, even your good notes will have a certain synth-iness to them.
