If this is the case, it's almost too good to be true. "Mutations" and "Sea Change" are still my favorite two Beck albums.

I concur with Pearl Jam's "World Wide Suicide". The National's "Fake Empire", too.

I thought you were initially joking when you said Kelly Clarkson finished ahead of "OK Computer". I mean, she has her moments, but seriously? Seriously?

It's not so much the selections as the order that's completely inexplicable. It honestly looks like the EW editorial staff put 100 albums from the last 25 years in a hat and drew them out at random. "Turn On the Bright Lights" over "Surfer Rosa"?

The record is wonderful. But I'm off to shoot myself in the skull because the only one I can identify is "Singles Going Steady".

I don't feel like this is a 'comeback' in the slightest, but I do feel this is a make-or-break proposition for Beck. 'Guero' and 'The Information' each had their moments (and they each have their fans) but neither of them exactly blew up the charts or the critical world. All the pieces are in place for this to be the album of the year, but there's part of me that can't help but think that anything *less* than the album of the year will be a potentially career-damaging letdown for Beck. These are just my thoughts; anyone else see what I mean?

And to think the album isn't even out yet. That's what blows my mind. This is a pretty awesome discussion of an album that *hasn't been released*. I know times have changed, even in the last 2-3 years, but wow.

Thanks for ruining Beach House for me, Cale.

I don't know where along the line I started to hate Chris Martin's voice, but there's something about this that makes my skin crawl. I won't hate (I liked the first two albums) and I wish these guys all the best, but I won't be lining up for this one. Some bands you just outgrow.

Jesus Christ, what a terrible album cover. Totally looking forward to the album, though :)

Are you sure that "Eddie Vedder" drawing isn't actually Meat Loaf?

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
