On Stereogum

Came here to say this. Better song than anything Gibbard/Tamborello/Owl City have done/will ever do.

I'm excited for this record, and here's why: I think I'm the only person on earth who thought Proof of Youth wasn't a carbon copy of Thunder Lightning Strike. TLS had the rush of novelty (in a good way) whereas PoY was a batch of ridiculously catchy pop songs. If you did a blind listening test with a group of people who had never heard a Go! Team record, I'd bet a majority of them would prefer PoY. They are a band that by all accounts should have faded into oblivion, but I think they have the chops to make a career of it. Parton is moving away from sampling and into classic songwriting? More power to him; I hope they pull it off. High hopes for this record.

Is being the Wes Anderson of indie music necessarily a good thing?

PJ Harvey opened for U2 when I saw them in 2001.

What an astounding set list. It's a shame I can't make it up to Detroit Lakes, MN (not MI) for 10KLF.

My god, talk about an earworm. I listened to it once, and yet Kele's voice has been ringing in my head for the last hour.

I agree with just about everything you said, except for the PBJ part. But hey, what's so bad about differing opinions?

I honestly don't hear what so many people (Jim DeRogatis, for instance) heard in putting Vivian Girls in their top-5's for 2008, but this really isn't bad. Like Rob S. said, "[t]his isn't any better or worse than 90% of what's passed off as indie rock". My only caveat: would it kill them to mix the vocals just a touch higher?

Let's be honest: if the White Stripes are recording songs now, they could easily release a full-length by the end of summer. It could be coming out next week, for all we know.

I initially read this as David Caruso, which was even funnier.

I think Sports Night had a laugh track for 4-5 episodes, then went with a live studio audience for the rest of the first season, then went without for the second season.
