I do have an excuse! There were two of us shooting for Stereogum this weekend and covering the strange collection of bands that populated it. Franz Ferdinand played one of my favorite sets of the weekend, too. I was a little jealous he got to shoot that set, but I am looking forward to seeing his pics. I'm sure they'll be great.

I think the audio was taped by Jackson Barnes.

the only thing I want to say in defense of this kind of cute movie is that the "meet cute in the elevator over the Smiths" scene is played as obvious cliche and a flimsy way into a relationship.

great show. and I think this is the most times I've ever appeared in the shadows of a stereogum photospread.

PB&J sounded good, but it was a weirdly bold move to not include a "hit" from Writer's Block anywhere near the first few songs of their set.
(Oh, and Fleet Foxes sounded fine. They had a huge crowd and most everyone stuck around for the whole set.)

another set of winners! I love the pictures of the Flaming Lips, especially the one where Wayne is looking much more interested in his confetti gun than in the swarm of naked women dancing around him.

which is maybe why David Karp mentioned "getting married" in his viceland interview the other day? this video kind of makes a nice companion piece to his defense of the overshare:
What about oversharing? Is this the Age Of Oversharing? I hesitate to use the word overshare, because… well… it’s more that our personalities are now able to reach out a lot further than they would ten years ago. Ten years ago there simply wasn’t an option to find like-minded individuals so easily, but now if someone somehow get to your blog they can decide that you’re like-minded and might want to get a drink with you next time they’re in New York. Or get married. Or whatever.

It was far past time for Robin to pack her knives and go home to takeover a shiny nightclub's appetizer menu, but it was kind of difficult to see how Eli didn't lose this week. Aside from his usual insufferability, hardly any of the judges could bring themselves to put his food in their mouths, let alone swallow it.

when they had the top four last night, I wished that the judges had just sent them straight to the top finals and dismissed everyone else. the conclusion is so foregone that anyone else winding their way into the finals will be by blind luck, stupid mistakes, or bad judging.
the funny thing about this season is that eli and mike don't seem realize that the only competition they're still in is the one for most odious cheftestant. I mean, maybe Robin is a horrible old lady who drives them all batty, but they come across as looking so much worse for their smug cruelty.

oh god. I almost forgot about the funniest espionage "Prince Alexi" and "Undercover Dorota" part of the episode. Such stealth.

THE way that "the" SONIC YOUTH were basically props in that scene was hilarious. People just kept actually BUMPING THEM OUT OF THE WAY while moping about the reception. AMAZING.

that trailer made me nostalgic for when I thought that Beverly Hills Chihuahua was going to be the most unwanted movie of all time forever and ever the end.

Don Draper has no use for camera obscuras; he has awesome sunglasses and adman aloofness that allow him to stare straight at the eclipse without consequence.

it is wretched. and on the only road and maybe when you're on a road trip to the coast you think that you will find a cute place to stay and then you keep going and going and going finding nothing and forks looks like your only hope so you think, how bad can this be? and get a hotel and go out for horrifying mexican food and nearly die of food poisoning and wish that you'd kept driving and just slept by the side of the road to face highway robbers. that's what they should put in their tourist brochures.
