Ha! I was just thinking, "WOW, they still got it" and then read the first comment.

Joan Jett did a better cover.
But the original is perfect.

I can't get past this band's pretentiousness. This video doesn't help.
He looks like Vigo from Ghostbusters 2.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I almost hated this movie. Yes it felt "presented" and it felt like a forced perspective of a child. The trailer was better than the movie. Something that irritated me was that Max did not "tame" the wild things as he did in the book. He "escapes" his "terrible" home life only to go to a place that is just as if not more terrible? As a child, I always felt that Max was partying with the wild things. This movie was dreary and boring and fake. I'm really glad though that they did not rely heavily (or at all?) on CGI.
But my kids liked it a lot. So go figure.

Jennifer Garner was the best thing about this movie because she was the only genuine character.
I cringed when Jason Bateman sat down on his floor and played Superstar by Sonic Youth for Juno. Was that supposed to be cringe-worthy? Or were we supposed to identify with some manchild holding onto the dream of being a rock star and making mixes for a teenager?

That clip sealed the deal for me. When I was trying to relate that part to someone I couldn't explain it without laughing.
Also, STEPMOM made me want to hang myself. Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts fighting for the best mom title... and too many sing alongs of Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Ugh. I feel a gag reflex just thinking about it.
