Noah and the Whale is where it belongs. Really it's not too terrible, this list.

I would say major oversights include the Antlers, the Mountain Goats, Dan Deacon, Yo La Tengo, and Sunset Rubdown.

I love how "no more albums" really just meant, "We're gonna put out a ton of material without worrying about wrapping it up in an album." Still a bummer, since Radiohead singles become so much better within the album, but not the "end is near" proclamation it seemed like.

Eh, whatever. They're definitely risking over-saturation with 1901, but it's still one of the best songs of the year.

I do think it's funny that walmart/axe managed to eek 7:37 minutes looping just one song. Do they know Phoenix actually came out with a whole album?

Eh, can always complain, but it's not bad. Apologies to Queen Mary higher, top 50 at least. I've always liked I Am Not Afraid of You... better than And then Nothing... personally.

And, yeah, 13 of top 20 going to first three years? Either playing it safe or sentimental?

Also in: Nicholson Baker, Philip Roth, and Marilynne Robinson are writing the screenplay for Transformers 3. Meanwhile, Philip Seymour Hoffman is slated to star in High School Musical 4, and Tom Hanks is playing the leading role in the film adaptation of Dan Brown's novels.... oh wait.

Uh. Trippy's the word, I suppose. Bad trip trippy. Good song, great album anyway.

Seriously, is there an album-art-generation program everybody starting using this year?

I'd be okay if Jim James and M Ward just kept playing together every once in a while and left the other two out of it.

Joining the choir: I do not like this. This sort of glittery neo-glam-look annoys the hell out of me, and most of the bands who employ the look or sound I find dull and/or obnoxious... Wild Beasts often being an exception.
