FINALLY some love for SFA, arguably the most underrated band of the last 15 years.
Probably wouldn't have selected Bows and Arrows, since I think the last two albums were better, but nice to see the Walkmen on the list.
Also nice to see Let it Come Down on the list. Finally got to see them live a couple times last year and the shows were really amazing.

That's all that really counts, though, right? Seriously, if/when I do a list this year it will be something like "10 albums that I, me, this guy right here, got the most enjoyment from". I can pretty much guarantee that Art Brut won't be on many lists this year, but dammit if I didn't have more fun listening to that album than all but a couple others.
And while I'm sure things like Sunset Rubdown and Mastadon and La Roux are great and all, who was time to listen to EVERYTHING? Nothing against any of those act, who I may love if I wasn't busy listening to something else. Only so many hours in a day, right? I consider myself a pretty good consumer of music of the indie genre and its periphery, but man, there's still a ton of stuff on my radar that I just haven't gotten around to. It's hard to get worked up about lists this size when you've only had time to really devour about 35-40 albums all year, tops. I don't just mean listen to, I mean really spend some time with.
I hate that I care about music criticism.
Also, I like Metric, but I think that's a little high for this album.

I actually like their (Foreign Born's) new album better than Veckatimist (and I really like Veckatimist).

No, I was at the late show at the Empty Bottle. Not really a big crowd, but it was a really good show.

I can't comment on Black Lips, but I've seen Wavves a couple times, and aside from a poor vocal mix at Pitchfork, they've sounded pretty decent, or rather, pretty much like I've expected them to sound. My only issue with Wavves is that they only played for about 30 minutes. Pretty short for a headlining set. This was in Chicago about a week ago. I don't know if that's typical of their live shows.

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't love this song at first, though I could kind of tell that I was going to like after I listened to it a bunch of times, if that makes any sense. It's not instantly accessible, but it starts to come together after a number of listens.

Seeing them in a couple months, so I was curious to see how they'd come across live. I've still gotta think it will be better in person. I'm really loving this album, though, even though it took me a few months to get around to listening to it.

Would like to have seen more representation from the Super Furry Animals. Juxtaposed is a terrific song, but the pinnacle of their work this decade is probably 'Frequency', and it's got the best example of Sean O'Hagan's arrangement ability.
I like the position of "the Rat" in the top 20, though. "The Rat" is the most perfect four minutes of live music I've ever witnessed.

My favorite American live act. Only the Super Furry Animals and Art Brut compare (in terms of how enjoyable the show is). The Rat (every time they play it) is the most perfect four minutes of live music I've ever seen.

I like the last album, but it was just far enough outside of my comfort zone that I don't know if I'll like his subsequent stuff. So far, after the first two new tracks, I'm finding I still like it. He was fine at Pitchfork, except the vocal mix was far too weak. I'm seeing him next month in a more traditional venue, so it will be interesting to see how they sound indoors.

Wow, Charlie Weiss has a hot girl friend. No wonder he can't beat Navy.

I am in no way advocating violence, but I must admit, I would be curious to see what would happen to Jeff Dunham if he were standing around outside a club in Torrance after performing his act.

I'm on board with that. I preferred the pre-Frank episodes.

I'll throw my lot in with the "not as good as before, but still better than most TV" crowd.

Were you at the wavves show at the chopin theater? Because although it was short, and they came on late, it was AMAZING! The moshpit was great, and zach hill, is rediculous. Not to mention what a great sport nathan was considering everyone kept knocking him over, disconnecting his pedals, and knocking over the microphone. But it seemed like he had a lot of fun, i bummed him a cigarette after the show.
