Yeah, I was just wondering why there's so much "In Rainbows is better than Kid A" sentiment popping up all of a sudden. I think some other best of the decade list (Gigwise, I think?) even ranked Kid A in the top 5 but put IR at #1. I don't get it at all either. In Rainbows is beautiful, but for me there is simply nothing like Kid A.

Well, for one thing, it's the catchiest electro-pop album I've ever heard. It's a fantastic record all around. St. Vincent is in my top 10 and I want to marry her but Passion Pit is far and away my number 1 album of the year. I'm just wondering where The Decemberists are on that list. Also, Paper Route and Thrice released their best records this year. Of course, Thrice has no indie cred even though they are awesome. There are rules.

Yeah I'm with you about outrage over St. Vincent's Actor. I mean it's on the list ... at 40, so it's getting some recognition I suppose, but so many albums ahead of it are at a much lower caliber. So far, it's looking like this album's going to end up with the short end of the stick when it comes to end of year roundupness in favor of a lot of overhyped nonsense (not that that's particularly shocking). It's such an brilliantly written, intricately composed work; it's miles beyond Marry Me. It's got an interesting, cohesive lyrical theme running through all of the songs (women in circumstances requiring putting up a facade or witholding the truth) without coming across as a screwy concept album. The woman's also just such a little virtuoso. Though it seems like a lot of people just kind of dismiss it as boring or overly precise and controlled, which I just don't get since it has a lot of liveliness and variation to me -- The Strangers, Marrow, Black Rainbow etc etc. Plus the album ends with the line "bodies like wrecking balls fuck like dynamite."

I love alot of the other albums ('twas a good music year) ... but c'mon. Yeah Yeah Yeahs -- it's energetic and it does its job, but it's all just attitude, with a few more splashes of vulnerability than they normally pull out. Metric at 11? I'm sorry but that's plain horse shit -- Fantasies is alright but it's the same old metric nonsense with the same old gratingly bad attitude. Grizzly Bear? They're obviously talented composers, but it seems like they're one of those bands that are allowed to get away with anything in indieland now, because that album's only got a few songs that don't get under my skin or bore me.

It's also the fundamental problem with Top __ lists -- it's kind of rediculous to precisely quantify something which is inherently unquantifiable... and while they're amusing sometimes, I also feel kind of annoyed when I first read them because I always end up feeling like some guy's trying to belittle my tastes (until I remind myself "oh yeah, it's some guy's opinion ... no reason to care"). Anyway -- rambling. (No I don't have anything that much better to do right now than posting a long-ass comment reply about a top album list, in case you're wondering)

What was wrong with Our Love To Admire? I thought it was a good album. Not as good as Turn On The Bright Lights or anything but it still held it's own. Regardless.. still looking forward to new stuff from these guys.

Very nice video. By far my favorite track on the album and Kudos to the audience for valuing the importance of silence. Wish audiences here in the US knew how to do that.

There are certain artists that I've become a fan of their music over the years that no matter what direction they take their music into I always seem to follow their lead. Beck is one of these artists. I like this song and yeah ok sure, it's not an amazing song but it's certainly one that grows on you after several listens. Besides the music though I'm actually digging the music video even more. The ideas put into this music video remind me of all those weird/arty videos Beck did back in the mid-to-late 90s. Much of the imagery found in this video seem not to make any sense but that's the whole point... it's art. Love it. By the way... is it me or is Charlotte looking mega-hot on this video? I'm in love with the anti-christ. *gasp!*

I agree with that previous commenter that stated the obvious omission of TVOTR & Spoon. As far as placements, I would've personally have had Wilco's YHF & Kid A somewhere closer to the top 5 at the very least. Don't understand why people feel In Rainbows is much better than Kid A. I love In Rainbows as much as the next RH fan, but I'm afraid even Thom would disagree with the placement of one of his greatest achievements(Kid A). The big surprises are the Johnny Cash & At The Drive-In albums making an appearance on this best-of-the decade list. Also glad to see Primal Scream and The Libertines up there on the top of the list but as much as I loved The Strokes' 'Is This It', I just don't feel it's the greatest album of the decade. Just saying.

Dude, that's just the way things work sometimes. People make stupid comments and then thousands of other people (on the internet) get rubbed the wrong way and choose to do whatever they feel like doing. Sometimes it might be bashing the band, sometimes it's not attending their shows or sometimes even not buying their music anymore. As you said, it is the internet. A band as big as Radiohead deserve the respect not only because of what they represent but because of what they've accomplished over the past decade and a half. 90% of current bands LOVE RH and yes, we the fans are everywhere but don't worry... we are harmless. Wherever there's someone bashing our favorite band, you can bet there will be loyal fans ready to voice their two-cents. In regards to the FF comment, it's pretty obvious it's just a shameless attempt at getting free publicity. Simple as that. I'm sure the FF are RH-fans just as much as I'm sure you, me and most everyone here are too. Having said that.... Happy b-day Jonny Greenwood!
