pitchfork gives bands like grizzly bear and wavves high reviews because they're awesome.
the wavves album wasn't one of those that pitchfork just decided to hype-- check other reviews http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavvves

Their album cover and videos are kind of awesome and have been praised on a number design/art direction websites. That's a tough crowd to impress. Standing on the Shore is lacking in production value, but still fun and entertaining.
