New Cure – “Underneath The Stars” (Live In NYC)

As the 2008 nostalgia train continues, so do the Cure. Robert & friends have been playing live shows and releasing monthly singles, all in anticipation of the 9/13 release of album the 13th. As far as the singles go, "The Only One" was poppy, lovey, not offensive and "Freakshow" just kinda was. We haven't heard a recorded version of "A Perfect Boy." Same goes for new concert opener, "Underneath The Stars," which is my favorite of the new material: A cascading, spacious, classic-sounding six-minutes-and-change slow builder that would've made sense, at least texturally, on EW-approved Disintegration.

Good call on the blue lighting. They've been playing "Underneath" live for the last month or so, but this is the best recording so far. I'm curious to hear the studio take, which I haven't said that about a Cure song in a long while.
