Devendra Banhart – “Mi Negrita”
Last night, Devendra was in Williamsburg opening up for Swans. Today, he releases the fourth preview track of his forthcoming eight LP Mala, from which we’ve already heard “Für Hildegard Von Bingen,” “Never Seen Such Good Things,” and “Cristobal Risquez.” This new track “Mi Negrita” charts a slightly different course, though, in that it is throughly Spanish in sound and language. Mi español is rusty, but this song definitely refers to work (“trabaja”), love (“amor”), and hope (“esperenza),” which is to say, I’m pretty sure it’s about Barack Obama. Hear it:
Mala is out 3/12 via Nonesuch. Pre-order it.
