James Ferraro – “Blood Flow”
When James Ferraro dropped his new album late last year I was frustrated. Sushi came out in that strange limbo between late November and the new year when people are burnt out from a year of new music and focusing more on best of lists. It was virtually ignored, which is too bad because it’s a good album. But now after hearing Ferraro’s new single, “Blood Flow,” I feel like it was a smart decision. Ferraro, it seems, quietly used Sushi as a stepping stone from his breakthrough, the nightmarishly pleasant Far Side Virtual, to move onto something even greater. On the surface, “Blood Flow,” plays with some of the sounds Ferraro explored on a series of mixtapes last year, but there’s a new vulnerability here underneath all of the stuttering drum machines and synth stabs that makes it such an intense listen. Listen and download “Blood Flow” below and look for it on his new mixtape at the end of this month.
