Beans – “Deathsweater” Video
Two years ago, Antipop Consortium rapper Beans released End It All, a self-produced but highly collaborative LP featuring assists from Four Tet, TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Black Moth Super Rainbow’s Tobacco, and Interpol’s Sam Fogarino. Whatever the statute of limitations is on a music video from a previous released album, exceptions must be granted for work this clearly labor-intensive, as it probably took all this time to make: End It All’s funk-tipping track “Deathsweater” gets what is essentially a lyric-video of the highest order directed/edited/filmed/animated by The Wilderness, the motion graphics design company behind memorable clips like Passion Pit’s dizzyingly zoetroped clip for “Sleepyhead”. For “Deathsweater,” the Wilderness shot Beans on black-and-white film using a Bolex camera, then used a mix of myriad fonts, hand-drawn illustrations, and copies to handle his poetry. (Timing the lyrics edit must have been tons of fun.) The video’s release timing also has a news peg: Beans used the opportunity to tell he’s soon releasing an EP with Mux Mool called Knifefight, and he’ll have a new solo album out early 2014 called Wolves Of The World. He should probably get started on its music videos now. Watch “Deathsweater” here, highly recommended for animation/graphics/font nerds:
