Biffy Clyro – “Biblical” Video (Stereogum Premiere)
In the video for Biffy Clyro’s “Biblical,” the band’s frontman Simon Neil gets a phone call that sets off a violent series of events — and when the song’s second verse comes around, his day begins anew, Groundhog Day-style, starting with that very same phone call. I’m not sure if the story here has any relationship to the song’s lyrics, and I’m also not sure why the other two-thirds of the band (brothers James and Ben Johnston, who play bass and drums, respectively) are absent from the clip, but it’s a pretty cool concept with an elliptical conclusion. “Biblical” comes about 25 percent of the way through Biffy’s excellent new double album, Opposites, and it probably skews to the former side of the ballad/rocker binary, although the swelling, cinematic chorus gives the song a pretty substantial heft. I’ve written a bunch about Biffy Clyro here in recent weeks — both in the Opposites story linked above and even more so in the premiere of album track “Modern Magic Formula,” which we posted a couple weeks back — so I won’t repeat myself, except to say that I love the band, and I think this is their best album, which surprises me, considering how much their earlier work has meant to me. Check out the video below and cop the album here.
