Lana Del Rey – “Summertime Sadness (Ryan Hemsworth Remix)”
“Summertime Sadness” was one of the most wooden and obvious songs on Lana Del Rey’s none-too-impressive 2012 debut album Born To Die; the first time I heart the album, it was the song that finally made me think that this thing really wasn’t turning out too well. But the Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth, who’s recently been gaining traction by adding depressive rap thumps to tracks from people like Cat Power and Rhye, has worked his remix magic on the track, and his hazy thumps make the song’s glumness that much more tangible, though the central melody still sounds like a first draft that needed a few more revisions. Listen to Hemsworth’s remix below.
