Laura Marling – “Where Can I Go?”
We have the British singer-songwriter Laura Marling to thank for Marcus Mumford, previously employed as her drummer, and that’s probably enough to convince the Stereogum comments section to hate her forever. But Marling’s songs are soft, lovely, warm, casual things, and her records are some truly reliable Sunday-afternoon listens. The next of those records, which bears the vaguely Bill Callahan-reminiscent title Once I Was An Eagle, is coming in a couple of months. And it’s single “Where Can I Go?,” which you can hear below, builds nicely from spare acoustic whispers to ramshackle Memphis soul.
Once I Was An Eagle is out 5/28 on Virgin.
