Azealia Banks Shares New Single, Wishes Death Upon The Stone Roses
At this point, all the people Azealia Banks has Twitter-feuded with over the past few months should just band together, record a “We Are The World”-style song about the experience, and then just be done with it. Banks’s latest target is an unexpected one: Reunited Madchester legends the Stone Roses, who, according to Banks, attempted to sabotage her set at Australia’s Future Music Festival by loading in behind her.
Banks has deleted a bunch of those Tweets, but Rolling Stone has them quoted: “Big apologies on behalf of the stone roses to my fans at the festival today. My ex tour manager made a pact with the stone roses saying they’d sabotage my set because I fired him.. And they decided to check their equipment behind me during my set. Fuck those old saggy white niggas stone roses. I wish them nothing but excrement and death. Wow! I must really fucking be a superstar… You’ve got an established band trying to sabotage my lil rap bitch shine. Wow a bunch of old white men trying to bully a young black girl…. What the fuck else is new in this world ???” Let’s all pause to enjoy the image of the Stone Roses in a backstage sabotage-planning pact-meeting.
And given the way Banks has been doing business lately, it’s not exactly a surprise that her words about the Stone Roses are threatening to completely overshadow her pretty great new single, a dizzy and disorienting dance-rap jam called “Yung Rapunxel,” produced by Chicago seapunk inventor @LILINTERNET. Listen to that track below.
Banks’s debut album Broke With Expensive Taste will hopefully come out soon; an LP full of tracks like this doesn’t deserve to sit on any label’s shelf.
