Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments
Coachella is here! And comment voting is back! Two reasons to celebrate for sure. Back in my day, Coachella was only one weekend, and bottled water was only a nickel. If you’re in Indio, don’t forget to drink water (and don’t eat your wristband). Also say hi to Danny DeVito for me. If you’re not there, this is a great weekend to hang out at Stereogum.com: in additional to Coachella recaps and photos from Claire and Andrew, we have a new and improved comment voting system. Hover over the thumbs for a comment and you can see how many upvotes and downvotes it got. Exciting, right? Less exciting than Blur/more exciting than RHCP? Anyway, before we get to the list, here’s what happened in our world this week:
- JAY-Z’s “Open Letter” namechecked Obama and the White House reminded reporters that it’s a song.
- THE NATIONAL released “Demons” and “Don’t Swallow The Cap,” and we ranked their 10 best songs.
- THE POSTAL SERVICE kicked off their reunion tour.
- PHOENIX played Brooklyn and SNL, and are now headlining festivals, a role we deconstructed.
- JESSIE WARE and GUARDS spoke to our own T. Cole Rachel (AKA Rachel Cole).
- DESTROYER’s discography got the Counting Down treatment courtesy of Tim and Elizabeth Bracy.
- KURT VILE got Album Of The Week honors for his gentle, contemplative Wakin On A Pretty Daze.
- MORRISSEY shed no tears after Margaret Thatcher kicked the bucket.
Here are the highest and lowest rated responses to all of those things!

eh. i mean, that’s arguable. she turned their economy around, but for who? also, i’m pretty sure shutting down the mining towns in northern england and leaving hundreds of thousands of people without jobs or really any kind of future wasn’t her only option on how to handle their woes back then. also, nice jab on me being from texas. you’re right, there are no liberals here at all and we all carry guns and yell at gay people as they’re trying to take their mail out. |

well. he’s right. she, in tandem with ronald reagan, waged a war on the middle/lower class that is STILL not over with today. both their policies are reflected in their current parties today. but thatcher was worse. instead of working with the opposition she waged scorched earth on them. that’s why most of northern britain lost their livelihoods back then. |

Can I just say I’m pretty glad to see that Paramore video up there? I’ve been secretly jamming to that song/video for the last couple days and was kind of starting to wonder about my future. Good call. Catchy as hell and she’s adorable. |
