Sinkane – “Warm Spell” Video (Stereogum Premiere)
Last month, Sinkane shocked the world, and himself a bit also, in being pulled onstage by Usher to sing a Sinkane song (“Runnin’“) in front of a confused (but excited!) SXSW audience. Your ‘Gum crew was 100% present, and the wow factor on it having happened is still high all these weeks later. So it is a particularly good time for Ahmed Gallab to step up with his most beautifully rendered video to date; there are probably more eyes on him now than ever. “Warm Spell,” a standout from his DFA debut LP Mars, has been around here in remix form, but here it’s spangled Afrobeat takes the shape of beautiful and bare humans coated in lustrous body paint (one of them Gallab, others featuring female body parts that make this NSFW for uptight offices) and classy editing, camera work, and filmic direction by longtime Sinkane video collaborator Philip Di Fiore of Rumpus Room. It’s a pretty thing to watch, and there’s a new “Warm Spell” remix for you to download thereafter. Enjoy:
“Warm Spell” appears on Sinkane’s debut LP Mars, out via DFA. The Warm Spell EP features the single and remixes by Larry Gus and Duppy Gun. The EP is available at iTunes, though you can get started by downloading the Gus take here:
