Dizzee Rascal – “H-Town” (Feat. Bun B & Trae) (Prod. A-Trak)
There were many, many interesting things about the London rapper Dizzee Rascal when he was an ascendant grime star a little less than a decade ago, but one of the low-key fun things about him was always his association with the Texas cult-rap legends UGK, who he collaborated with on a couple of songs. Since then, Dizzee has ascended to cheesed-out British pop-rap stardom and largely fallen off the American critical and cultural radar, and good for him; a man’s got to pay his bills. But for his latest single, Dizzee’s returned to his Texas rap fascination, linking with old UGK buddy Bun B and fellow Houston underground star Trae on the new single “H-Town.” A-Trak, who produced the song, has done a nicely understated job fusing the dark rave of Dizzee’s past with the Southern-rap slow crawl that he loves, and this combination continues to sound pretty great. Listen to a radio rip of the track below.
