The 5 Best Music Videos Of The Week
Guys, Yeezus leaked. You don’t need music videos right now. You need to just play that real loud, let blood fill up your vision, luxuriate in the angry anxiety. If, however, you somehow need a break in between Yeezus sessions, or if you’re one of those weird and virtuous people who waits until it’s legal to hear something, or you’re one of those godless motherfuckers who doesn’t love Kanye West, we’ve got five good music videos for you below.
5. Young Galaxy – “New Summer” (Dir. Ivan Grbovic)
I hope I don’t live to see the end of the world. But if I do live to see it, I hope it happens in ecstatic choreographed-mayhem slow-mo like this, and I hope I get a moment to appreciate it before a flying piece of shrapnel decapitates me.
4. Fat Tony – “Hood Party” (Feat. Kool A.D. & Despot) (Dir. ?)
The music-video version of an epistolary novel, a fun and ridiculous story that unfolds completely on someone else’s computer screen. Bonus points for the kinda-funny chat window that’s very easy to ignore.
3. Poliça – “Tiff” (Feat. Justin Vernon) (NSFW-ish) (Dir. Nabil & Mike Piscitelli)
Whenever Nabil does anything, he usually ends up at the top of this list. But this, the torture-porn retelling of the Nicki Minaj scene in the “Monster” video, is just a little too tough to watch. Still, it’s a powerful piece of work, and Poliça frontwoman Channy Leaneagh gets major props for what must’ve been an incredibly difficult acting job.
2. The Lonely Island – “Go Kindergarten” (Feat. Robyn) (Dir. Akiva Schaffer & Jorma Taccone)
Diddy’s comic timing goes way beyond what you’ll see from most actual professional funny people. The 17-year-old version of me, the one that fast-forwarded past all the Puff Daddy verses on Life After Death, never would’ve believed it, but it’s increasingly becoming apparent that Sean Combs is a national treasure. This video, which Combs absolutely owns despite all the insanity erupting around him, only serves as further evidence.
1. Pure X – “Thousand Year Old Child” (Dir. Malcolm Elijah)
I am not exactly in the market for a new dad. But if I was, I’d want this guy to be my new dad.
