King Krule – “Easy Easy”
It’s strange to think that after the breakout attention that Archy Marshall aka King Krule got in 2011 (when he was Zoo Kid) with “Out Getting Ribs,” it’s taken him this long to release a debut album. But time has given him the chance to explore some great collaborations and focus his distinctive sound into something even better — trust me, “Easy Easy” is proof. The music is understated, mostly a single guitar, just enough to give Marshall something to play his unique vocals off, yet the track hits with a tremendous directness that he’s made a signature. It comes with an equally simple and compelling video as well, one that you’ll think is a still image until Marshall casually pops in. The debut, titled 6 Feet Beneath The Moon, also features old single “Out Getting Ribs” (and before you think it’s strange to put a two-year-old single onto a new album, don’t forget that Japandroids did this with “Younger Us” last year and it sounded even better on the record.) The record is due out later this summer on Marshall’s 19th birthday, but if “Easy Easy” is any signifier it sounds like we’re the one who are getting a present.
6 Feet Beneath the Moon is out 8/24 on True Panther and XL
