For a minute there, Jack White and his ex-wife, the model and singer Karen Elson, seemed like the most chill, simpatico divorced couple possible. When the two ended their six-year marriage in 2011, they threw a joint divorce party, and Elson released a couple of records on White’s Third Man label last year. But things were not as rosy as they appeared, and now Elson has filed for a restraining order against White, alleging that White has been harassing her.

The Nashville City Paper reports that the two have been going through a custody battle over their two children and that Elson “fears for her children’s safety.” (She currently has custody over both kids, and she doesn’t want to grant White a role in the parenting. The restraining order claims that White sent harassing phone calls, emails, and texts to Elson, her attorney, and her attorney’s paralegal, “pressuring her about the settlement terms for the divorce.” The order also claims, “This pattern of husband’s bullying wife into submission was a contributing factor in the demise of their marriage.”

The strangest claims in the story revolve around an unidentified rival musician (or perhaps two rival musicians):

Recently, according to the filing, White wanted Elson to contact their kids’ private school in an effort to get their kids out of a class in which another entertainer’s child was present. White said that he feels that entertainer ‘ripped off’ his music, the order said.

In another incident, White berated Elson when she attended the wedding of a rival musician. Again, he was upset because this entertainer also ‘ripped off’ his music, according to the order. The musician was unnamed in the court filing.

Right now, White is only allowed to contact Elson over email, and he’s prohibited from having “any contact with wife whatsoever except as it relates to parenting time with the parties’ minor children.”
