Lorde – “Royals (Rozay Remix)”
Is Rick Ross just contractually obligated to rap on any song that mentions Maybachs in the lyrics? Lorde’s massive left-field smash “Royals” is pretty much the opposite of everything Ross is about, lyrically; it’s a song about how the aspirational money-talk lyrics on so many rap songs are vastly different from the experiences of most of the people who hear those songs. And yet here’s Ross on the remix, rapping about his fur rugs and Super Bowl tickets. And it sort of works? I don’t know; it’s a good song and a good Ross verse, and I like the tension between the massively and possibly-unwittingly different standpoints. Listen to it at In Flex We Trust.
Lorde’s album Pure Heroine is out now on Universal.
