Watch M.I.A. On Colbert
M.I.A. may be one of the most politically charged artists on the popscape today, but there’s a reason she’s not really making the Sunday morning talk-show circuit. Last night, she was the guest on The Colbert Report, and things got a bit messy, especially when she said she’d never seen the show. The interview wasn’t a trainwreck or anything, but it was pretty fascinatingly awkward. At the very least, someone should’ve counseled her to watch half an episode on her phone when she was in the car on the way to the studio, so she’d have some idea what she was getting into. Anyway! She also did two songs on the show’s stage. On the show proper, she did “Y.A.L.A.,” complete with backup dancer and crazy color-filters on the camera. And as an online bonus, she also kicked out a just-as-frenetic version of “Come Walk With Me.” Watch the interview and both performances below.
M.I.A.’s very good album Matangi is out now on Interscope.
