R.I.P. The Child Of Lov
Well, this is just impossibly sad. NME reports that Martijn William Zimri Teerlinck, the Belgian-born, Dutch-raised R&B enigma, who’d just started his career last year, died earlier this week after suffering complications from an unidentified surgery. He was only 26.
Teerlinck started his career anonymously, only identifying himself as the Child Of Lov, and he released his self-titled album in June. On the album, he worked with luminaries like Damon Albarn and DOOM, and he also made a few gorgeously squalid music videos — videos which never actually featured Teerlinck on camera. He was booked to perform at a bunch of European festivals this past summer, but he canceled all his dates.
Here is a statement from his manager Trey Reames:
On behalf of the family and as his manager I must announce that Martijn Teerlinck, aka Cole Williams, aka The Child of Lov, aka Sun Patzer, is no longer with us. He lived a life of struggle and can now rest peacefully. In his own words: “When I was younger, I had a tough time physically. I have seen too many hospital beds. It made me stronger. Makes you realize death is always near, for anyone. And what a wonderful thing life is and how grateful we should be.”
Teerlinck didn’t leave behind much of a catalog, but let’s watch some of those videos below.
