CYMBALS – “Winter ’98”
The lead single from CYMBALS’ The Age Of Fracture, “Erosion,” was a warm and luxuriant bit of post-punk pleasure. “Winter ’98,” the second offering from the London band’s forthcoming record, is just as plush. It bears even more influence from club music and M83-friendly “St. Elmo’s Fire” synth-rock without abandoning the rippling shoegaze sonics that are smeared all over CYMBALS’ sound or the post-punk insistence that undergirds it. “Winter ’98” is very wintry indeed, but it sounds more like an especially wistful arena production than the snowstorm raging outside, with mirrorball glints sparkling overhead instead of flurries. Check it out below.
