TNGHT Announce Hiatus
On Friday, LuckyMe Records’ YouTube account posted a video called “Waning Moon” that featured live shots of TNGHT, the duo of producers Hudson Mohawke and Lunice, and ended with the duo saying goodbye to a crowd. The clip was published with the inscription “Until Next We Meet.” TNGHT also replaced their moon logo with an image of a clouded-over night sky as their Facebook profile photo, and LuckyMe tweeted Optimus Prime’s death scene from the cartoon Transformers movie with the message “Do Not Grieve…” As FACT reports, the label has now confirmed that TNGHT is “wrapped up for the time being so that both members can focus on their solo albums.”
TNGHT has been responsible for some of the most physically invigorating music of the past two years. With singles such as last year’s “Higher Ground” and this year’s “Acrylics,” they played a huge role in the popularization of the trap-rave subgenre. Throughout TNGHT’s tenure the duo has been closely associated with Kanye West; Mohawke contributed work to “Mercy” and several songs on Yeezus, and TNGHT’s “R U Ready” was sampled in “Blood On The Leaves.” Watch the hiatus announcement video below.
