CliffLight – “Do What You Want To Me” (Stereogum Premiere)
Boston’s university community already gave us one synth-pop powerhouse in Passion Pit, which matched Emerson undergrad Michael Angelakos with a bunch of Berklee music students. CliffLight is another band of Berklee kids, and their single “Do What You Want To Me” (not to be confused with Gaga’s “Do What U Want“) suggests the Cradle of Liberty might also be in the business of nurturing synth stars. CliffLight’s song is effervescent and undeniable. Think Passion Pit as fronted by Huey Lewis — unless that reference bothers you, in which case don’t think at all, just enjoy. I could easily imagine this topping the charts 30 years ago, and maybe even this year too. Listen below, where you can download it in exchange for an email address.
CliffLight’s debut EP is coming this spring.
