Last week, in her big return to New Zealand, Lorde covered James Blake’s “Overgrown.” And if “pop stars covering James Blake” is going to be a thing, then Ellie Goulding wants in. Goulding, the young British dance-pop monarch, did Lorde one better: She recorded her version of Blake’s “Life Round Here,” and she recruited Angel Haze to fill in on the remix’s Chance The Rapper part. The original is a great, great song, and if Goulding’s version can’t quite match its suspended-in-time float, it’s still an impressive interpretation. Listen below.
