The Echo Friendly – “Fuck It And Whatever” (Stereogum Premiere)
The Echo Friendly make break-up songs with extra prickliness. That is due in part to the rocky romantic history between members Jake Rabinbach and Shannon Esper, but it has even more to do with the band’s uncomfortably direct way of telling stories, as they do on the first single from their upcoming album, Love Panic. “Fuck It And Whatever” chronicles a series of painful events during the fallout of a breakup: dealing with them meeting someone new, drinking too much as a result, and most of all, the way any attempt at communication just comes out as confrontational. It’s a song about conflicting feelings, and one where the conclusion drawn in the title and chorus ends up feeling like the best option. Listen below.
