Photos: Arcade Fire @ Carnival In Jacmel, Haiti 2/21/14

Arcade Fire have a long history with Haiti: Co-leader Régine Chassagne’s parents immigrated from there to Quebec in the 1960s; the band have raised a lot of money for the country in the wake of the devastating 2010 earthquake; and most of Reflektor was recorded in and inspired by the country. Over the weekend, the band was one of a handful of non-local acts to play the annual Haitian Carnival, which takes place in the coastal town of Jacmel. Chassagne said in an interview that that their latest album was “almost an homage to Carnival” so it’s especially notable that they were able to play this cultural event for the first time. In their final songs, Arcade Fire were joined by local acts Rara Fanm and RAM.
