“Contemporized” Michael Jackson Outtakes Album XSCAPE Coming In May
Michael Jackson has been dead for almost five years, but there’s no shortage of unused material in the vaults, and the latest posthumous Jackson project is giving some of that material a makeover. XSCAPE, announced today for May release, features previously unreleased Jackson recordings “contemporized” by a team of producers including Rodney Jerkins, Stargate and John McClain under Timbaland’s supervision. A deluxe version of the album will include several of the songs in their original forms. No tracklist or music is available yet, but a press release suggests a team including Epic Chairman and CEO L.A. Reid combed through four decades of material. As someone who rather liked Drake and 40’s update of Aaliyah’s “Enough Said,” I am at least mildly optimistic about this project’s potential, but the margin of error is such that we’d probably be wise to not get our hopes up.
XSCAPE is out 5/13 via Epic. The pre-order link goes live Tuesday.
