Members Of Sex Pistols, Incubus, Destiny’s Child, ‘N Sync Revive Jesus Christ Superstar
If you’re not familiar with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, you might want to get familiar — the show may be coming to an arena near you. And/or if you’ve ever thought Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd gave off a real Judas Iscariot vibe or former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams was a dead ringer for Mary Magdalene, then you’re in for a treat. Yesterday on Good Morning America, Boyd and Williams made the announcement that Jesus Christ Superstar — in which they will indeed play those roles — would be embarking on a 50-city North American tour. You can watch video of the cast performing the title track from the show via ABC.
U.K. actor Ben Forster won the role of Jesus on Lloyd Webber’s reality show, Superstar. The revival will also feature *NSYNC’s JC Chasez as Pontious Pilate and the Sex Pistols’ John Lydon as King Herod. The show has run multiple times on Broadway, but it hasn’t been able to sustain a revenue stream large enough to keep it running. If anything can rescue the show, it’ll be Johnny Rotten prancing about the stage as the villain King Herod — it may well be the role he was born to play.
