The BBC’s live-music show Later With Jools Holland just began its newest season, and one of its first guests was Neneh Cherry, who just returned with the Four Tet-produced Blank Project, her first solo album in 18 years. Cherry is Swedish, not British, but she recorded her earliest tracks in the UK and found her greatest success there, and her circa-“Buffalo Stance” tough-chick persona has informed a few different generations of London musicians, so it’s cool to see her back on British TV. On the show, she did the album’s intense, devotional title track, while the London duo Rocketnumbernine backed her up. Watch the performance below.
