Gold-Bears – “Yeah, Tonight” (Stereogum Premiere)
Atlanta’s Gold-Bears describe their music as “crash pop.” It’s a particularly catchy catchphrase, and it perfectly encapsulates “Yeah, Tonight” from the quartet’s upcoming sophomore set Dalliance. A giddy boy-girl singsong in the vein of Los Campesinos! or a cheerier Times New Viking, it races in on a sugar rush and never lets up, frontman Jeremy Underwood conjuring John Darnielle as he harmonizes with Emma Kupa of defunct London indie-pop outfit Standard Fare. But for all the song’s immediacy, there sure is a lot going on besides that relentless rhythm section: organ swells, myriad guitar arpeggios, even banjo. The results are very pretty and wildly fun, and you really ought to listen.
Dalliance is out 6/3 on Slumberland.
