Alexander Turnquist – “Wildflower”
The New York-based guitarist Alexander Turnquist has gradually built a reputation for his virtuosic 12-string guitar playing, and it’s a testament to his compositional skills on “Wildflower” that it sounds so easy. As explained in a recent press release, Turnquist has had a brutal year. After surgery to repair a seized ulnar nerve resulted in him having to relearn many musical techniques, he nearly died from meningitis. He began writing the upcoming Flying Fantasy while recovering, but “Wildflower” doesn’t sound hard-won or labored over at all. It’s an effortlessly pretty piece of music as pristine and natural as its namesake. Listen below.
Flying Fantasy is out 6/10 via Western Vinyl.
