BANKS – “Drowning”
Brutal circumstances inspire brutal lyrics. Consider this scandalous snippet from the latest BANKS single: “From the girl who made you soup and tied your shoes when you were hurting/ You were not deserving.” The song, “Drowning,” is an angry fist-wave from a woman scorned. It’s not necessarily a triumphant vengeance, though, because she’s still drowning and all. Meanwhile, producer Al Shux conjures the same darkly seductive post-Weeknd vibe that has become BANKS’ calling card. It works! “Drowning” is another promising preview of her forthcoming full-length debut, Goddess. Hear it below.
Goddess is out 9/8 in the UK via Rough Trade and 9/9 in the US via Harvest. Pre-order it here.
