New Brian Wilson Album May Feature Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean, Zooey Deschanel
In the 10 years since Brian Wilson finally released Smile, the Beach Boys maestro has mostly stuck to passion projects like What I Really Want For Christmas, Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin, and In The Key Of Disney. The only thing that could pass for a traditional Wilson album was 2008’s California song cycle with Van Dyke Parks, That Lucky Old Sun. But according to the Studio Notes section of Rolling Stone’s 6/19 issue, it sounds like Wilson has another LP in the works featuring some noteworthy guests of a more modern vintage. Wilson’s website passed on Rolling Stone’s blurb:
Songs in contention for Brian Wilson’s next album range from the sassy “Sharing a New Day” with Kacey Musgraves to the space-age bossa nova “On the Island” with Zooey Deschanel to the haunting “Last Song” with Lana Del Rey. Another possible highlight: “Special Love,” potentially featuring Frank Ocean. “This project blows my mind,” Wilson says. “I had no idea we could pull this off!”
Hard to imagine Ocean signing on unless the song was really quality, so I’m officially excited about this. And I have a feeling the Lana Del Rey track will be iconic in a way even if it ends up sounding atrocious. By the way, Wilson and Deschanel crossed paths before in 2008:
