Cold World – “Hell’s Direction” (Feat. Kool G Rap)
For years, the hardcore band Cold World has figured out a way to fuse throat-crushing guitar stomp with broken-bottle-to-the-face rap music without being mookish about it. I don’t know how I missed this, but they’re now on the brink of releasing a new album called How The Gods Chill, one that features actual rappers. Boot Camp Clik veteran Sean Price, Queens hardhead Meyhem Lauren, and, somehow, incarcerated original Max B all show up on the LP. And on the song “Hell’s Direction,” they’ve got a verse from the eternally grimy New York legend Kool G Rap. It’s a bit of a messy fusion, but the messiness is almost the point, and if you’ve been reading Stereogum for a while, I don’t think I need to tell you that this shit is so up my alley. Listen to it, and, for the hell of it, check out the video for the album’s Sean Price-assisted title track below.
How The Gods Chill is out 8/5 on Deathwish, Inc.
