Violence Erupts At BET Awards Parties
The most dramatic thing that happened at last night’s BET Awards ceremony was a bit of ambiguous tough talk from Nicki Minaj, probably directed at Iggy Azalea. But in the parties surrounding the award show, there was a troubling amount of violence, including one shooting death.
CBS News reports that the death occurred at L.A.’s Monalizza Restaurant, where an awards-show pre-party was happening, early Sunday morning. Four people were hurt, and one man, 33-year-old Lavell L. Smith, died. According to the LAPD, the shooter remains at large.
TMZ reports that there was another shooting after the awards show outside Hollywood’s Supper Club. There’s not much agreement about what happened there. One witness claimed that the shooter was aiming at rapper the Game’s car, while another says that the shooter was firing into the air.
Meanwhile, TMZ also reports there was a stabbing at another pre-party, this one hosted by the rapper Meek Mill at Lure Nightclub. The club was full of rappers, but none are thought to be involved in the stabbing. After a fight broke out on the dancefloor, one man was stabbed, and he’s in stable condition at an area hospital.
