Nile Rodgers – “Do What U Wanna Do”
As the creative force behind Chic and the producer behind monster hits from people like Diana Ross and David Bowie, Nile Rodgers is responsible for some of the best disco and dance-pop anthems of the ’70s and ’80s. He’d been off the pop-music radar and playing to the nostalgia market for years before he resurfaced last year on Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” and since then he’s worked with dance artists like Disclosure and Tensnake. And now he’s going back to recording for himself. “Do What U Wanna Do” is Rodgers’s first solo single in a decade, and he recorded it last summer in Ibiza, then auctioned it off to benefit his We Are Family nonprofit. The record label Cr2 bought the song, and they’ll release it as a single next month. It’s a breezy song, a summer club-music trifle, and you can hear it below.
