Whirr – “Heavy”
Former Deafheaven member and current Nothing bassist Nick Bassett’s band Whirr make gravelly, heavy shoegaze. Earlier this month, we premiered “Mumble,” the first single from their upcoming album, Sway, and now you can hear a new one: the appropriately titled “Heavy.” The sound here is great, due in part probably to the involvement of Sunbather producer Jack Shirley, but the band deserve the lion’s share of the credit. Whirr wrap their songs in shoegaze fuzz, but it’s music with excellent interplay, focused melodies, and vulnerable vocals. Whirr soar somberly, but they still soar. Listen below.
Sway is out 9/23 via Graveface.
