Natalie Mering is a former Jackie-O Motherfucker member and Ariel Pink backup singer, and on her own, she makes uncanny, tough-to-categorize music under the name Weyes Blood. Our own Miles Bowe saw her play last year’s Mexican Summer festival and found himself stunned. Mering will release her new album The Innocents this fall, and “Hang On,” its first single, sounds like a tweaked and adrift version of ’60s folk music, the same way that Ariel Pink’s recent music sounds like a tweaked and adrift version of ’80s adult contemporary.
