Today In U2 Rumors: Album Finished, Video Shooting In Nice
The past few months have been peppered with hints at what U2 have up their sleeves: the Super Bowl single “Invisible,” a recording from their Bono’s beach house, and some conflicting chatter about when it will be released, the current theory being that it will be out sometime this year. Here are two more rumors to add fuel to the fire…
The Irish Times reports that a music industry insider said that the release schedule will go something like this: “single in September, album September-October, tour announced December, first date April next year.” Apparently, the album has been done for months but the label decided to not release it during the summer. There was also a last-minute scramble to come up with a big single for the album and they brought in Adele producer Paul Epworth to help. At a music conference in May, former U2 manager Paul McGuinness talked about the album, “It’s great. It’s very different from what they have done so far but still sounds like U2. Bono sings better than ever. As he gets older his voice is even more interesting.” Now that the album appears to be finished, the next step is promotion: fansite @U2 points to a tweet (in French) from Concept K Design indicating that a video is currently being filmed in Nice. We’ll see what comes out over the next few months — it’s been five years since U2’s last album, No Line On The Horizon.
